Meningococcemia is a bacterial infection of the blood due to neisseria meningitidis, also called meningococcal bacteremia or meningococcal sepsis. For unknown reasons, the bacteria may then spread through the bloodstream to the nervous system. The meningococcal vaccine is the same as the bacterial meningitis immunization shot it is supposed to be effective against four varieties of bacteria.
